Styling Fur in OG Streetwear

Styling Fur in OG Streetwear

Diving into the details that make fur a perfect OG styling element.

Fur has been a staple in fashion history for centuries and its connotations have evolved a lot, transforming from a symbol of wealth and elegance to one of the Winter's must-have in streetwear and casual styles.
With the rise of ethical awareness and respect for the planet and animal welfare, the production of new fur has luckily dropped significantly. People have started turning to pre-loved fur instead and, in some cases, to faux fur.

As a thrifting enthusiast and regular at second-hand markets, I couldn’t help but geek out a bit about it. The way this item has been integrated into streetwear is both fascinating and inspiring for me. Like all garments with a strong personality, wearing fur requires knowing exactly what you’re doing. Today, I want to share some examples of women who truly know how to pull it off in the best way possible.

WHAT MAKES FUR A PERFECT OG STREETWEAR GARMENT

To achieve a casual, street-style look, the first and most intuitive thing to do is pair it with casual items or fabrics that are accessible to everyone. Denim is the perfect match; it was originally used as workwear fabric, and there’s nothing more humble and low-key than a good pair of jeans
.
In the image below of the first Queen I picked, BJRNCK, the fur already has a pretty casual cut; it's cropped and has a relaxed fit, almost resembling a hoodie.

I often hear people who are afraid of wearing too many pieces of jewelry or intimidated by overly flashy accessories. The Queens I've chosen below (Sierra Rena and Uncle Waffles) really show us that there's nothing to be afraid of. Layered gold chains, plenty of rings, earrings, and - if you’re bold enough -grillz, speak volumes.

The third detail to pay attention to is choosing the right accessories.
Sometimes, just picking one brand over another can completely change that OG streetwear vibe we love. Once again, our Queens show us how to do it right. In Sierra’s case, the bandana is a super G accessory that takes on meaning depending on what items it’s paired with. With fur, it definitely adds to the G factor of the look. Luxury brands, as we’ve known for a while now, are a staple in streetwear. You can’t go wrong with a Gucci bag or an iPhone cover to complete the look.

THERE'S NO STYLE WITHOUT BALANCE

It may sound obvious and cliché, but what I always remind myself is that style is all about balance, and I think that's exactly what makes the looks I’ve shared with you so strong. The tops worn by these women are simple and basic, chosen for their fit rather than to steal attention or overwhelm with excessive visual or tactile elements. The same goes for the pants - they have character but keep that casual vibe thanks to denim. What really adds depth and personality to these looks is the use of accessories and jewelry.

I don’t know about you, but this has made me want to go put an outfit together right now. Let me know how you like to wear fur under this post on our IG profile, and tag us in your stories when you’re feeling stylish and G to continue building the flyest community together.
We’ve been on the hunt, as always, and have found some great pieces that we’re sharing with you below.
Let us know in the comments of our IG post which accessories you’d pair with a fur-based outfit.

Stay creative,
